"Water supply is in the concurrent list which means the three levels of government have a responsibility and role to play".

The executive Governor of Anambra state, His Excellency Chief Willie Obiano in his speech said the theme of the conference which is "Challenges of water supply and sanitation in Nigeria" is timely especially these period of cholera outbreak. Anambra state has enhanced it's effort on sanitation and hygiene.

It should be obvious to all that the basic requirements for human existence on which all else depend are air and water. The importance of the availability of a good source of water supply is underscored by the fact that in early times, it's availability had determined the settlement of communities.

Hopefully, the outcome of this conference will add to the existing pool of recommendations from which Nigeria government at the various levels can draw, to effectively tackle the potable water supply challenges in the country".
