From Stella Obi, Ibadan

Plans are underway by Oyo State Government to get rid of travel agencies who have been defrauding prospective students planning to study abroad.

Oyo  State Commissioner for Education, Olasunkanmi Olaleye stated this at the opening ceremony of Education USA Advising Centre in Ibadan on Wednesday.

Mr Olaleye, who explained that many unsuspecting individuals had been scammed of their hard earned resources while seeking admissions overseas, added that the operation of Education USA would enlighten prospective students hoping to study abroad.

In a keynote address, the Public Affairs Officer, U.S Cosulate, Lagos, Stephen Ibelli noted that over 10,000 Nigerian students were studying in United States of America.

Mr. Ibelli said the Education USA Advising Centre was put in place to guide students through the steps of admission and visa procurement free of charge.

Two students, Fatia Adebajo and Olakunle Adebayo who lauded the establishment of the centre, said gaining admission to higher institutions abroad had been made easy.

With the opening of Ibadan Centre, the Education USA now has a total of six centres spread across Nigeria.
