Deputy minority leader, Ebele Ejiofor before seconding the motion for adjournment used the opportunity to commiserate with the families of those who lost their loved once in the recent accident that claimed about twenty lives at Agulu. Ejiofor, condoled the families of the dead describing the incident as pathetic and unfortunate. He called on the commissioner for works to direct the contractors to rush to the particular road and do the needful. He also commended the Governor of Anambra State Willie Obiano, for rushing down to the scene of the accident.

Speaker of the 7th Assembly, Uche Victor Okafor on his part prayed God to grant the souls of the departed eternal rest and give their families the fortitude to bear the lost. Okafor also prayed for the quick recovery of other casualties that are still hospitalized thereby sympathized with Ndi-Anocha. The legislators commend Obiano for his swift response through suspending the ongoing State Executive Council Exco meeting he was presiding in his Office in Awka and rushed to the scene of the accident at Agulu, Anaocha Council Area where the fatal accident occurred.

Sadly, no fewer than ten persons were reported to have died on the spot while several others were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries. But as at filing this report, the casualties have increased. Governor Obiano after inspecting the accident scene proceeded immediately to St Joseph hospital Adazi Nnukwu where the injured victims were already receiving medical attention.

In his reaction, Obiano regretted the huge loss, and ordered the transfer of the victims to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching hospital Amaku-Awka  for better Medicare. He promised to pay all the bill of the affected persons. The Governor directed that a road barricade be sited at the neck of the road to avert such fatal accident in future. This was because the accident was said to have been occasioned by brake failure of a heavy duty truck carrying heavy metal objects which then smashed two vehicles that were coming from opposite direction.

The priest in charge of St Joseph’s hospital, Rev. Fr. Jerome Okofor, commended the Governor’s proactive action of providing medical facilities in the State as well as prompt visit to the victims describing the Governor as a leader with human feeling.
